Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Ameer, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, recently stated in a talk show that his apology is not limited to the events of 1971 but extends from 1947 to the present day. He said that if anyone has been hurt or suffered due to the actions of their party or its members during any period, he offers his unconditional apology to them. When asked specifically whether his earlier statement of seeking forgiveness included the period of the Liberation War, he clarified that his apology encompasses all times, including 1971. Dr. Rahman acknowledged that both individuals and political parties can make mistakes, and it is ultimately up to history to judge what was right or wrong. He emphasized that Jamaat is an ideological party that recognizes human fallibility, and if any of their actions caused pain or harm, they sincerely seek forgiveness without any conditions. He added that asking for forgiveness is not a sign of weakness or shame but a moral responsibility.
