After a 43-day absence, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md. Shahjahan Mia returned to the Nagar Bhaban (City Hall) on Thursday, June 26, at around 1:30 PM, and announced the resumption of all city services during a press briefing. He stated that the administration is now focused on moving forward, with several priority tasks ahead—particularly the swift preparation of the upcoming budget.
Shahjahan Mia had been unable to enter the Nagar Bhaban since May 14, when supporters of BNP leader Ishraque Hossain began demonstrating, demanding that he be handed over the mayoral duties. The protestors took position at the main gate and even inside the city corporation premises. However, on June 22, Ishraque’s supporters partially scaled back their protest and allowed essential services to resume. Upon his return today, Shahjahan Mia was welcomed by some of those who had previously been part of the protest. Several officials from the engineering department were also present at the Nagar Bhaban.
