Weather Update: Light to Moderate Rain Likely in Dhaka and Surrounding Areas
The Meteorological Department has forecasted that the sky over Dhaka and nearby areas may remain partly cloudy at times on Friday. Light to moderate rain, occasionally accompanied by thunderstorms, is expected in the region. The forecast for the six hours from 7:00 a.m. indicates that daytime temperatures in Dhaka may slightly drop.
The Meteorological Department has also issued a five-day forecast from today until August 26. During this period, scattered rainfall is expected across various regions of the country, including Dhaka. Temperatures are predicted to rise slightly on two days, while on the remaining three days, both daytime and nighttime temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged.
The forecast notes that the monsoon winds over Bangladesh remain active, particularly in the northern Bay of Bengal, where they are currently strong.
Friday’s forecast indicates that most areas of Khulna, Barisal, and Chattogram divisions, along with many parts of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions, may experience light to moderate rain or thunderstorms accompanied by occasional gusty winds. Some areas in Khulna, Barisal, and Chattogram may see moderate to heavy rainfall at times. Across all eight divisions, daytime and nighttime temperatures are expected to remain largely unchanged.
Kazi Zebunnesa, a meteorologist at the department, told Prothom Alo that the rainfall is being caused by the active monsoon winds. She added that while heavy downpours are not expected in the capital, intermittent showers may continue throughout the day.
She also noted that heavy rainfall forecasts issued over Khulna, Barisal, and Chattogram in the last 72 hours are still in effect, though the intensity of rain appears to be gradually decreasing.
In the past 24 hours, the highest rainfall in the country was recorded in Kutubdia, with 261 millimeters.
