In the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election, visually impaired student Faruk Howlader from Surya Sen Hall expressed his excitement after casting his vote using the Braille system.
At around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, he voted at the Udayan School polling centre with the help of Braille. Speaking to reporters afterward, Faruk said it was a remarkable experience and expressed hope that the same system would be introduced in the national elections.
Faruk, who is blind in both eyes, shared his happiness, saying he was delighted to finally cast his ballot using the method through which he had studied since primary school. Being able to choose his preferred candidate independently through Braille was a meaningful moment for him. He also thanked the Ducsu authorities and those who worked to make this initiative possible.
Voting for the Ducsu and hall union elections began at 8 a.m. across eight centres and will continue until 4 p.m.
