Alamgir, a notorious extortionist from Kumillapara in Chhoto Sholuya village, Chuadanga, has been accused of widespread extortion by intimidating locals. The residents have grown increasingly distressed under his dominance, with many claiming that refusal to pay the demanded sums results in harassment by Alamgir and his gang. Known for his shifting political affiliations, Alamgir portrays himself as a leader of various movements, including anti-discrimination student activism, Jamaat-Shibir, and Jubo Dal.

Since August 5, Alamgir has allegedly established a reign of terror in his village by extorting money, grabbing land, and intimidating residents under various political guises. Locals, whether expatriates or daily wage earners, reportedly face relentless extortion demands. Residents have called for swift legal action against him.

According to sources, Alamgir demanded BDT 100,000 from Abdur Razzak, a South Korea-based expatriate and son of the late Anu from the same village, threatening to demolish his house if the amount wasn’t paid. Out of fear, Razzak’s brother paid BDT 55,000 to Alamgir, promising to pay the rest later.

Razzak said, “Alamgir suddenly targeted our home, demanding money and threatening demolition. We tried to avoid legal entanglements and gave him a portion of the demanded amount just to avoid his wrath.”

Several residents reported that Alamgir had previously disappeared to Dhaka after embezzling money from locals through the now-defunct Destiny company. Upon returning to the village, he aligned himself with Awami League activists.

Following August 5, Alamgir identified himself as an anti-discrimination student leader and demanded BDT 500,000 from a female entrepreneur in the village. When the entrepreneur delayed payment, Alamgir and his gang attacked her fish hatchery, causing extensive damage.

Locals allege that anyone who speaks out against Alamgir faces physical assault or legal harassment. A member of the Chhoto Sholuya Mosque Committee claimed Alamgir sold mahogany trees from a cemetery for BDT 50,000 and extorted BDT 20,000 from contractors involved in a BDT 300,000 government development project at the cemetery.

Further allegations include deliberately over-fertilizing his pond to kill fish, accusing Awami League members of poisoning it, and exploiting the situation to further his narratives.

Alamgir and an associate named Sohel were reportedly caught with 36 bottles of Phensedyl but managed to escape after threatening their captors. Locals now describe him as a symbol of terror in Kumillapara, especially after August 5.

Failing to gain traction within Jamaat-e-Islami, anti-discrimination movements, or Jubo Dal, Alamgir now claims to be the Organizational Secretary of the Chuadanga District Committee of Tarique Oikya Front.

Residents have appealed to law enforcement to investigate and take legal action against Alamgir’s extortion and drug syndicate network, which continues to instill fear in the village.
