BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has expressed gratitude, on behalf of himself and his family, to everyone who carried out their duties during the funeral and burial of his mother, Khaleda Zia.

Describing the farewell to BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia as a historic departure, Tarique Rahman said the ceremony was completed with due respect and dignity for the people of the country.

In a post shared on his verified Facebook page early Thursday morning, he conveyed his appreciation to the nation and to all those involved in the funeral arrangements, writing that the compassion, respect, and sense of responsibility shown during this time of deep grief had deeply moved his family.

In his message, he thanked members of the Bangladesh Army, Navy, and Air Force, as well as security and law-enforcement agencies, advisers of the Chief Adviser and the interim government, and journalists.

He wrote that amid one of the most painful moments of his life, he was able to bid farewell to his mother in a manner befitting her stature. He noted that this was made possible by the care, professionalism, and dedication of all those who worked tirelessly to ensure the event was conducted peacefully and respectfully.

Tarique Rahman praised the armed forces for maintaining discipline while also demonstrating humanity in a sorrowful environment, ensuring safety and allowing people to participate in the funeral prayers peacefully. He also expressed thanks to all members of the law-enforcement and security forces—including police, BGB, Ansar, RAB, and APBn—for their patience and commitment, which enabled millions to gather, pay tribute, and return home safely.

He acknowledged the contributions of intelligence agencies, various government ministries, and advisers, highlighting their coordination and presence, which helped ensure the day passed without incident. He also thanked officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for facilitating the presence of foreign dignitaries who came to express condolences.

Tarique Rahman further expressed appreciation for journalists from home and abroad who, despite difficult conditions, responsibly covered the funeral and burial and shared the moments with audiences worldwide.

He extended special thanks to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus and members of the interim cabinet for their personal presence and support during the period of national mourning, saying their care was invaluable to his family.

Concluding the post, he wrote that, beyond institutions, he was grateful to everyone as human beings. The empathy, respect, and sense of duty shown during this time of loss touched their hearts.
