Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has shared a post on his verified Facebook page regarding an interview he gave to international news agency Reuters.

The post was published on Thursday at 9:19am. Rahman had spoken to Reuters in an interview on Wednesday.

In his post, Shafiqur Rahman explained that during the interview, a Reuters journalist asked whether Jamaat-e-Islami maintains any form of contact or communication with India, given that it is a neighboring country.

He said he responded by mentioning that after returning home following medical treatment last year, many visitors—both from within the country and abroad—came to see him. Among them were diplomats from several countries, including two Indian diplomats, who visited his residence. He noted that he spoke with them just as he did with other visiting diplomats.

Rahman added that Jamaat-e-Islami had informed all visitors that such meetings were made public, and the party intended to do the same in this case. However, the Indian diplomats had requested that their visit not be publicized at that time. He said Jamaat made it clear that any future meetings related to bilateral interests would be disclosed publicly, emphasizing that there was nothing secret about such interactions.

The Jamaat Ameer expressed surprise and concern that some local media outlets reported the visit as a “secret meeting” between Jamaat leadership and India. He strongly condemned what he described as misleading reporting and urged the media to verify facts carefully before publishing such claims in the future.
