Positive trend in DSE index and trading volume

On Monday, the second trading day of the week, the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the country’s main stock market, experienced a rise in indices as the majority of shares saw price increases. Trading volume also grew compared to the previous day. Similarly, the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) witnessed an increase in both index values and trading volume.
Market observations showed that DSE experienced fluctuations throughout the trading session, ultimately closing higher. The DSEX, the benchmark index, rose by 10.57 points or 0.20% to settle at 5,234.94 points. The Shariah-based DSES index gained 3 points or 0.25%, reaching 1,169.10 points, while the DS30 index, representing blue-chip stocks, increased by 5.44 points or 0.28% to 1,926.50 points. The total turnover on the DSE stood at BDT 544.28 crore, up from BDT 487.57 crore on the previous trading day, marking a rise of BDT 56.70 crore. A total of 23.24 crore shares changed hands in 166,758 transactions. Out of the 398 traded stocks and mutual funds, 173 advanced, 153 declined, and 72 remained unchanged.
Orion Infusions Limited topped the DSE’s turnover chart, recording trades worth BDT 16.73 crore, followed by Beach Hatchery Limited with BDT 15.18 crore, Square Pharmaceuticals Limited with BDT 12.37 crore, Fu-Wang Food Limited with BDT 11.76 crore, Dragon Sweater & Spinning Limited with BDT 10.81 crore, Shinepukur Ceramics Limited with BDT 9.92 crore, and several others, including Tafika Foods & Lovello Ice Cream PLC and Agni Systems Limited.
In terms of percentage gains, Kattali Textile Limited led the top gainers with a 9.83% increase in share price. Other notable gainers included Bashundhara Paper Mills Limited (9.82%), Deshbandhu Polymer Limited (9.79%), Sandhani Insurance Limited (9.67%), and Islamic Finance & Investment Limited (9.34%).
Meanwhile, at the CSE, the CSCX index rose by 38.98 points or 0.44% to reach 8,842.83 points, while the CASPI index gained 56.62 points or 0.39% to close at 14,570.28 points. A total of 208 companies traded on the CSE, with 109 stocks advancing, 71 declining, and 28 remaining unchanged. The total turnover at the CSE reached BDT 31.50 crore, significantly higher than the previous session’s BDT 10.85 crore.
Grameenphone Limited led the CSE turnover list with trades worth BDT 20.34 crore, followed by Paramount Insurance Company Limited (BDT 2.94 crore), Dutch-Bangla Bank PLC (BDT 1.61 crore), Tafika Foods & Lovello Ice Cream PLC (BDT 1.08 crore), and Meghna Petroleum Limited (BDT 1.03 crore), among others.
