Gold prices in Bangladesh have climbed sharply once again, with the latest adjustment pushing the price of 22-carat gold above Tk234,000 per bhori (11.664 grams).
The new rates, announced by the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS), took effect on Saturday and remain in force on Sunday. The increase follows a rise in the local market value of refined gold, prompting the industry body to revise prices across all categories.
Under the updated pricing structure, a bhori of 22-carat gold is now being sold for Tk234,038, including VAT. Prices for other categories have also increased, with 21-carat gold set at Tk223,541 per bhori and 18-carat gold at Tk191,931. Gold produced under the traditional system is being sold for Tk156,822 per bhori.
The latest revision represents a jump of Tk4,374 per bhori for 22-carat gold compared with the previous rate.
The increase comes just days after BAJUS reduced gold prices on Aug. 7, when the price of 22-carat gold was lowered to Tk229,664 per bhori.
According to industry figures, gold prices have been revised 100 times in Bangladesh so far this year. Of those adjustments, prices were increased 49 times and reduced 50 times, while one revision was related to VAT adjustments.
Silver prices remain unchanged under the latest announcement. A bhori of 22-carat silver is currently selling for Tk4,899, while 21-carat, 18-carat and traditional silver are priced at Tk4,666, Tk4,024 and Tk3,033 respectively.
Jewellers said the updated rates will remain effective until further notice, although additional charges for craftsmanship and design may apply depending on the jewelry item.
