Bangladesh is actively pursuing measures to stabilize and rebuild its economy, with authorities expecting gradual improvements before stronger growth returns, Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said on Monday.

Speaking at an awards ceremony honoring selected researchers, innovators, and entrepreneurs in the capital, the minister said the government is focused on addressing economic challenges while laying the foundation for long-term expansion.

According to Chowdhury, economic stabilization remains the immediate priority. Once stability is achieved, growth momentum is expected to strengthen, potentially opening a new chapter for Bangladesh’s economy.

The event was organized under the Skills for Industry Competitiveness and Innovation Program, an initiative of the Finance Division aimed at encouraging industrial research, innovation, and collaboration between businesses and researchers.

The minister noted that several reform measures have already been introduced, including policy adjustments, regulatory changes, and incentive programs designed to improve economic performance. He expressed confidence that the benefits of those initiatives would become increasingly visible over time.

He also highlighted efforts to expand employment opportunities through the establishment of skills development centers across the country, describing workforce development as a key component of Bangladesh’s economic strategy.

Officials at the event said more than 120 innovation proposals were submitted, with 12 projects selected for support. The winning researchers will receive funding to develop practical solutions for challenges facing different industries.

Representatives from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Bangladesh’s industrial innovation and competitiveness agenda, emphasizing continued cooperation with the government.

The program aims to strengthen productivity, enhance industrial capabilities, and promote innovation-driven growth as Bangladesh seeks to navigate economic pressures and improve long-term competitiveness.
