Bangladesh will begin discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) next week to finalise the details of its loan proposal, Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said.

The talks will focus on resolving outstanding issues and reaching a final agreement on the proposed loan, the minister said after meeting with the IMF in Bangkok on Friday.

“Everything has been agreed upon in principle. Now, delegations from both sides will sit together to work out how to finalise the agreement,” Chowdhury said.

He added that the meeting covered the final review of Bangladesh’s loan proposal submitted to the IMF.

The finance minister said multilateral development partners were working closely with Bangladesh and had expressed their willingness to support the country. These partners include the World Bank, IMF, Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), along with other multilateral institutions and bilateral development partners.

Chowdhury described the coming year as particularly important for Bangladesh, saying development partners shared the government’s assessment of its significance.

He also said Bangladesh had proposed signing a Country Partnership Framework (CPF) with the World Bank. The government has prepared a five-year development framework as part of its longer-term plans.

The minister made the remarks on the sidelines of the 2026 Annual Meetings of the IMF and World Bank Group, held in Bangkok from October 12 to 18.
