Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, Economic Advisor, stated that no decision has been made regarding the provision of dearness allowances for government officials and employees. He clarified that whether such allowances will be granted is yet to be decided. He further explained that the allowance increases for foreign missions were part of decisions made long ago.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, January 28, following a meeting of the Economic and Procurement Advisory Council, Dr. Ahmed mentioned that measures have been taken for railway employees based on humanitarian considerations, addressing issues like overtime. However, fulfilling additional demands is not feasible given the country’s economic situation.
He assured that sufficient stockpiles of rice and wheat would be maintained to avoid shortages during Ramadan. Regarding the ongoing protests by railway employees, he questioned the rationale behind their actions, emphasizing that their reasonable demands had already been addressed.
