Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has once again decided to lower gold prices in the domestic market. Effective from Tuesday, May 13, the price of 22-carat gold per bhori (11.664 grams) has been set at BDT 167,623 — a reduction of BDT 3,138. BAJUS made the announcement in a statement issued Monday evening, citing a drop in the price of pure (acid) gold in the local market as the reason for the adjustment. According to the new pricing structure, 21-carat gold will now cost BDT 159,995 per bhori, 18-carat gold will be BDT 137,145 per bhori, and traditional method (Sanatan) gold will sell for BDT 113,339 per bhori. The price adjustment also includes a mandatory 5% VAT as set by the government, along with a 6% minimum wage component determined by BAJUS, though the wage may vary depending on design and quality. This marks the second price reduction in May, following a BDT 1,050 cut earlier in the month. Overall, this year alone has seen 32 gold price adjustments in the local market — with 21 increases and 11 reductions. In 2024, the total number of adjustments was 62. Meanwhile, silver prices remain unchanged, with 22-carat silver priced at BDT 2,811 per bhori.
