Doctors: Nurul Haque Does Not Suffer From Memory Loss After Head Injury

Gono Odhikar Parishad president and former DUCSU vice president Nurul Haque has not experienced any short-term memory loss following his recent head injury, Dhaka Medical College Hospital authorities said on Monday. They also confirmed there is no risk of such complications developing in the future.

Brigadier General Md Asaduzzaman, director of DMCH, gave the update at a press briefing around 1:00pm.

He explained that Haque sustained a nasal bone fracture, which is causing occasional bleeding. “It will take four to six weeks for the injury to heal. Blood clots around his eye have already cleared. If the family wishes, he may also be taken abroad for further treatment,” he said.

The DMCH director added that Haque has fever and cold-like symptoms. Samples have been sent for testing to determine whether the cause is dengue or another viral infection.

The injury occurred on August 29 in Kakrail, Dhaka, during a clash between activists of the Jatiya Party and the Gono Odhikar Parishad. The violence broke out when a procession of the Parishad passed by the Jatiya Party’s central office. Several people, including Nurul Haque, were injured after law enforcement intervened with batons.

Following the incident, the Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR) stated in a press release that despite repeated warnings, some individuals attempted to incite unrest through mob violence, attacking security personnel and escalating the situation with torch processions and stone-throwing. They also allegedly tried to set fire to properties. In response, law enforcement was “compelled to use force” to restore order. ISPR added that five army personnel were injured.

Nurul Haque was admitted to DMCH, where a high-level medical board was formed to oversee his treatment.

Meanwhile, the government has set up a commission to investigate the assault and serious injuries sustained by Haque.
