Students from Dhaka Polytechnic Institute along with several public and private technical institutions staged a blockade at Shatrasta in Tejgaon, Dhaka, this Wednesday around 11:15 a.m.

The demonstrators occupied the intersection to press home their four-point charter of demands, which immediately brought traffic to a halt in the busy area, causing heavy congestion and severe suffering for commuters.

Their four demands include:

  1. Ensuring strict punishment for those who openly issued death threats to diploma engineers during the recent movement led by the Engineering Rights Council.

  2. Immediate suspension of all state-backed activities supporting what they called the “unreasonable” three-point demands of BSc engineering students.

  3. Full implementation of the six-point proposals earlier raised by the Bangladesh Technical Students’ Movement.

  4. Introduction of a unified “One-Channel Education System” in engineering.

Nafiz Al Rushd, one of the protesting students, said:
“Earlier we had to take to the streets with six-point demands, and though the government agreed, those have not been carried out yet. They must be implemented. At the same time, the illogical three-point agenda of BSc engineers has to be resolved. Until our rightful demands are met, we will not withdraw from the streets.”
