Humayun Kabir (30) began learning the vegetable business in his childhood under the guidance of his elder brother, Mohammad Salauddin. He had been selling vegetables at Mithachhara Market in Mirsharai Upazila, Chattogram. Early Tuesday morning, he left his shop after leaving an employee in charge, taking his motorcycle to collect vegetables from the wholesale market. Tragically, he was killed in a collision at Lorichapa, not far from Mithachhara Market.

Humayun Kabir was the son of Badiul Alam of Goriaish in Mirsharai Sadar Union. The accident occurred around 6:30 a.m. on the Dhaka–Chattogram highway, near the U-turn lane heading toward Chattogram.

By 10 a.m., family members had gathered at Humayun Kabir’s home in Goriaish. His body was laid on a cot in front of the house, while relatives and neighbors mourned loudly. His father, Badiul Alam, and elder brother Salauddin were among those grieving.

Speaking to the media, Badiul Alam said that Humayun was the youngest of his four daughters and two sons. He had learned the vegetable trade from his elder brother and ran a successful business, even building a separate house in the village with his earnings. Humayun had a one-month-old son at home.

With tears, Badiul Alam said, “He held his son’s naming ceremony just a week ago, and today he lies lifeless on this cot. He had invited neighbors and relatives for the ceremony. He passed away during what should have been a happy time. How can I bear this pain?”

Asim Sen, who runs a shop next to Humayun’s, said, “He was always cheerful and friendly. He has been part of this market for many years without any disputes. Thinking that we will never see him here again is heartbreaking.”

According to Borhan Uddin, Sub-Inspector of Zorarjang Highway Police, a lorry ran over Humayun Kabir at the U-turn area of Mithachhara Market. He died instantly at the scene. Both vehicles involved have been impounded, but the lorry driver fled. The authorities have coordinated with the family regarding the legal procedures for handling the body.
