Former Caretaker Government Adviser M Hafiz Uddin Khan Passes Away
M Hafiz Uddin Khan, a former adviser to Bangladesh’s caretaker government and a past Comptroller and Auditor General, has died. He passed away on Wednesday evening at a private hospital in Uttara, Dhaka. He was 87 years old and is survived by his wife and two daughters.
The news was confirmed by Shahidul Hasan, his former personal officer. He said Khan’s funeral prayer will be held after Asr on Thursday at the AG Office, while details of the burial will be decided later.
Born in Sirajganj in 1939, M Hafiz Uddin Khan held several prominent positions in public service. He served as Comptroller and Auditor General of Bangladesh from 1996 to 1999. In 2001, he joined the caretaker government as an adviser in charge of the finance, planning, and textiles and jute ministries.
Beyond government service, Khan was active in civil society. He served as president of the central executive committee of Shujan (Citizens for Good Governance) and as chairperson of Transparency International Bangladesh. He also held senior roles in the banking sector, including director positions at BASIC Bank Limited and Rupali Bank, and later as chairman of Agrani Bank.
The BCS Audit and Accounts Association has expressed deep condolences over his passing.
