Under the intense Baishakh heat, motorcyclists were seen standing in long queues for fuel. At around 11:30 a.m. yesterday, heavy crowds were visible at the Tigerpass filling station in Chattogram city.

Supply Improving, But Waiting Continues

The country’s fuel reserves are increasing rapidly as new shipments arrive by sea. At least five more oil-carrying vessels are expected this week, bringing some relief especially for octane and furnace oil supplies. Officials also expect the diesel situation to become more stable once larger consignments are unloaded.

However, this improvement has not yet fully reached consumers. Visits to five filling stations in Chattogram found that many people still had to wait a long time for fuel. Some stood in line for hours before getting fuel, while others returned empty-handed.

Industry officials said the pressure created by earlier shortages has not completely eased. Although supplies have increased, it takes time for fuel to reach all levels of distribution. As a result, crowding at many filling stations remains largely unchanged.

BPC Chairman Mohammad Rezanur Rahman said there is no fuel shortage this month, adding that sufficient imports have arrived and more ships are on the way.
