In Mirsharai, Chattogram, a double-decker air-conditioned sleeper bus collided with a stationary truck loaded with timber, killing three passengers and injuring at least five others. The accident occurred late Thursday night near Dhumghat Bridge, on the Dhaka-bound lane of the Dhaka–Chattogram highway, just north of Bariarhat municipal market.

The deceased have been identified as Nafis Ahmed, 16, son of Nur Alam from Masjidia village in Khoiyachhara Union; Shabitun Nahar, 25, daughter of Helal Uddin from Chandgaon Thana, Chattogram city; and Mintu Mia, son of the late Naya Bapari from Katlamari area, Fulchhari Upazila, Gaibandha.

Highway police and local residents said the timber-laden truck had been parked on the road near the forest department checkpoint at Dhumghat Bridge. Around 2:00 a.m., the Dhaka-bound sleeper bus struck the back of the truck. At least eight passengers on the bus were injured. Locals rescued them and rushed them to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared three dead. The others were given preliminary treatment before being transferred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for further care.

Borhan Uddin, sub-inspector of Zorarangj Highway Police, confirmed the fatalities and said the families of the deceased have been informed. Nafis Ahmed’s relatives have taken his body home, and his brother-in-law, Mobarak Hossain, is preparing to file a case regarding the accident.

SI Borhan Uddin added that the collision occurred because vehicles were being stopped on the road in front of the forest department checkpoint for document inspection. Both the bus and the truck are now in police custody, while the drivers have fled the scene.
