The Appellate Division of Bangladesh’s Supreme Court has directed the Election Commission (EC) to reinstate the registration of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. The verdict was delivered on Sunday, June 1, by a four-member bench led by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed. Representing Jamaat in court were Barristers Ehsan Abdullah Siddiq, Imran Abdullah Siddiq, Najib Momen, Mir Ahmed Bin Quasem, and Advocate Mohammad Shishir Monir. Previously, on August 1, 2013, the High Court had declared Jamaat’s registration illegal and void through a ruling on a writ petition.
