Indian billionaire Gautam Adani announced plans to invest over 60 billion rupees ($686.18 million) in establishing two affordable health campuses in Mumbai and Ahmedabad, in collaboration with the U.S.-based Mayo Clinic. These campuses will include hospitals, medical colleges, transitional care, and research facilities, with technical support provided by Mayo Clinic Global Consulting. The health projects mark the initial steps of a 600 billion rupee commitment made two years ago by the Adani family toward healthcare, education, and skills development.
Meanwhile, the Adani Group is also leading a $619 million project to transform Dharavi, Asia’s largest slum, into a modern urban hub. However, this redevelopment has faced resistance from residents questioning the project’s feasibility.
Separately, in November, U.S. authorities accused Adani and senior executives of being involved in a $265 million bribery scheme to secure power supply contracts in India, allegations the Adani Group has denied as “baseless.”
