A Dhaka court has approved a three-day remand for Md Nuruzzaman Nomani, also known as Ujjal, who was arrested on allegations of helping Foysal Karim Masud—the main accused in the attempted murder case of Sharif Osman Hadi—escape after the incident. The order was issued on Wednesday by Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam.
According to Dhaka Metropolitan Court Public Prosecutor Omar Faruk Faruki, police produced Nuruzzaman before the court and sought a five-day remand. The application was submitted by Inspector Foysal Ahmed of the Motijheel zonal team of the Detective Branch, who is leading the investigation. After hearing arguments from the prosecution, the court allowed three days of custodial interrogation.
In its remand plea, police stated that information obtained through technology and confidential sources indicates Nuruzzaman’s direct involvement in the incident. He allegedly assisted another accused by arranging a hired vehicle to flee and provided guidance to the driver at different stages. Investigators claim there is substantial evidence linking him to the case. Describing the incident as sensational, police said further interrogation is necessary to identify other planners and participants in the attack, recover the weapon used, and ensure a proper investigation.
The case statement says Sharif Osman Hadi had formed a political and cultural platform named Inkilab Mancha after the recent political upheaval and was serving as its convener. On December 12 at around 2:20 pm, assailants on a motorcycle opened fire on him in the Box Culvert Road area under Paltan Model Police Station and fled the scene. Hadi sustained critical gunshot wounds to the head and below the right ear and remains in a life-threatening condition while undergoing treatment.
Following the incident, Abdullah Al Jaber, member secretary of Inkilab Mancha, filed an attempted murder case with Paltan Police Station on December 14.
