Clashes Erupt Between Youth Wing and BNP Supporters in Brahmanbaria

Violence broke out in the Aruail market area of Sarail upazila in Brahmanbaria on Saturday after supporters of a Jubo Dal leader and a local BNP leader confronted each other with sticks and spears. The clashes spread through several alleys of the market, creating panic among local residents and traders.

The incident involved followers of Aruail Union Jubo Dal convener Gazi Abdul Aziz, 45, from Dhamaura village, and supporters of BNP leader Abdul Khalek, 47, a resident of Ranidia village. According to police and local sources, tensions over local dominance had been building between the two groups for some time.

Trouble began on Friday night when a group led by Gazi Abdul Aziz reportedly assaulted Abdul Khalek in the market area and forced him to leave. In retaliation, Khalek’s supporters allegedly attacked Aziz the next morning, seriously injuring him by striking his head. Following this, tensions escalated rapidly.

Fearing violence, more than a thousand shops in Aruail market remained closed throughout Saturday morning. By early afternoon, residents from Dhamaura and Ranidia villages gathered in the market area armed with bricks, sticks, and sharp weapons. From around 2:00 pm until approximately 5:30 pm, the two sides repeatedly clashed in and around the market.

Several people from both groups were injured during the confrontations, while the situation caused widespread fear and disruption to daily life in the area.
