Monira Sharmin, Secretary of NCP’s Central Election Committee and Deputy Convener, confirmed to Prothom Alo on Sunday afternoon that the party’s candidates for 27 seats have been finalized, with the remaining three expected to be decided shortly.
Last Thursday, Jamaat-e-Islami, NCP, and eight other parties held a press conference at the Institution of Diploma Engineers in Kakrail, Dhaka, announcing an electoral understanding for 253 parliamentary constituencies. Islamic Movement Bangladesh was initially meant to be part of the alliance but ultimately decided to contest 268 seats independently while supporting others in the remaining 32 constituencies.
As part of the alliance, NCP is contesting 30 seats, although 47 candidates had submitted nomination papers. Following the departure of the Islamic Movement, NCP has begun discussions with Jamaat-e-Islami to potentially increase their seat allocation. Party sources said Jamaat is currently waiting for a decision from the Islamic Movement, and the final outcome will only be known after further developments.
