Trump Says Cuba Could Collapse Soon

U.S. President Donald Trump has suggested that Cuba may face a collapse in the near future. He made the remark during a telephone interview with CNN on Friday morning.

Speaking with CNN anchor Dana Bash, Trump discussed what he described as military achievements during his second term as president of the United States. During the conversation, he unexpectedly brought up Cuba and claimed the country’s downfall could happen soon.

“Cuba will fall very soon,” Trump said during the interview. He added that although the comment was somewhat unrelated to the ongoing discussion, the Cuban government was eager to reach an agreement with Washington.

Trump also indicated that Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, could be tasked with handling matters related to Cuba. “They want to make a deal,” Trump said, adding that he plans to give Rubio responsibility for dealing with the issue and then see how the situation develops.

However, Trump noted that the administration’s immediate priority remains Iran.

A day earlier, while speaking at the White House, Trump also suggested that Cuban Americans might eventually return to their ancestral homeland. His remarks hinted that Cuba could become a focus of the administration’s agenda after the current conflict involving Iran.

On Thursday, Trump praised Secretary of State Marco Rubio for his performance and said his next major responsibility might involve addressing the situation in Cuba.

“He’s doing a great job,” Trump said about Rubio. “Your next assignment will likely be Cuba, which is something we want to address.”

Trump also explained that Rubio was waiting for the right moment to shift attention to that issue. According to the president, trying to tackle multiple major challenges at once could create problems. He added that acting too quickly in dealing with several countries simultaneously could lead to negative consequences, something he said his administration intends to avoid.
