Thakurgaon is buzzing with excitement as President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is set to make his first official visit to his hometown since assuming the nation’s highest constitutional office.
From decorative gateways and colorful lighting to extensive security preparations, the northern district has transformed into a city of celebration ahead of the President’s arrival on Sunday, September 6.
Residents describe the visit as more than a state occasion—it’s an emotional homecoming. For many locals, Mirza Fakhrul is not only the President of Bangladesh but also a familiar figure who grew up in the streets and neighborhoods of Thakurgaon.
City Prepares for a Grand Welcome
Municipal workers have been working around the clock to beautify the town, while political leaders, government officials, and community organizations are coordinating events to ensure a memorable reception.
According to the official itinerary, President Mirza Fakhrul will depart Dhaka by helicopter and land at Mohammad Ali Stadium in Thakurgaon at approximately 11:40 AM. He will then receive a formal guard of honor at the District Circuit House.
One of the most emotional moments of the visit is expected to be his trip to the family cemetery, where he will pay respects to his late father, former minister Mirza Ruhul Amin, and his mother Fatema Begum.
Public Reception and University Foundation Ceremony
After visiting his family home in Kalibari, the President will attend a large civic reception organized by local citizens at the grounds of Thakurgaon Government Boys’ High School.
The following day, he is scheduled to lay the foundation stone of the proposed Thakurgaon University, a project many locals view as a landmark development for the district.
Massive Security Operation Underway
Authorities have implemented extensive security measures for the two-day visit. Members of the Special Security Force (SSF), President Guard Regiment (PGR), police units, intelligence agencies, and district administration officials have been deployed across key locations.
Officials say all venues, travel routes, and public gathering areas are under heightened surveillance to ensure a smooth and secure visit.
Locals Call It a Moment of Pride
Community leaders and residents say the President’s return has created an atmosphere of pride, excitement, and nostalgia throughout Thakurgaon.
Many see the visit as a symbolic moment where a son of the soil returns home after reaching the highest level of national leadership.
