The International Crimes Tribunal has issued arrest warrants against eight individuals, including six police officers and two influential Awami League leaders, in connection with the mass killings of July-August. The order was passed on Monday by a three-member bench led by Justice Golam Mortuza Mozumder, following a petition from the investigation agency.
Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tazul Islam later confirmed the issuance of the warrants, stating that evidence directly implicates the accused in the crimes. To prevent their escape, their names are being withheld at this stage.
Tazul Islam explained that the warrants were issued after the investigation agency established the direct involvement of all eight individuals in the high-profile murders in Dhaka. The court approved four separate petitions for the arrests.
Special advisor to the Chief Prosecutor, Toby Cadman, was also present during the proceedings.
