Former State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak has been remanded for three days, while former Senior Secretary Md. Shah Kamal will be interrogated for two days, as per orders from the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s (CMM) Court on Monday.
The court issued these remand orders in connection with separate murder cases filed by the police. Additionally, prominent figures, including Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasad) President Hasanul Haq Inu, former Food Minister Qamrul Islam, ex-Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, and former Additional DIG of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Mashiur Rahman, have been shown arrested in other cases.
Palak was brought to the court from prison in connection with the Manik Mia murder case filed at Shahbagh Police Station. Police had requested a seven-day remand for questioning, while the defense sought bail and dismissal of the remand request. The court granted a three-day remand after hearing arguments. According to case documents, Manik Mia was fatally shot on August 5 during an anti-discrimination protest near Dhaka Medical College. Palak, who was arrested on August 14, has been remanded for a total of 37 days across six cases.
In another case, Shah Kamal, accused in the murder of Jubo Dal leader Shamim Molla, was presented to the court by police seeking a seven-day remand. The defense appealed for bail, but the court granted a two-day remand. Shamim Molla was allegedly killed during a BNP rally in Nayapaltan on October 28 last year, and 704 individuals, including Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, have been implicated in the case.
Shah Kamal was arrested on August 17 from Mohakhali, and the following day, he was remanded for five days under a case involving foreign exchange regulations.
