BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed deep concern over the escalating violence against women and the overall chaotic situation in the country. In a statement sent to the media on Friday, he highlighted the growing tendency of harassment and mistreatment of women on streets and in educational institutions, calling it a dangerous trend. He emphasized that such actions are creating disorder and instability in society. He stressed that protecting women’s dignity and independence is a moral duty, as it is their constitutionally guaranteed right.

Fakhrul urged the government to take strict measures to curb violence against women and other forms of anarchy in order to establish justice and peace in the country. He expressed alarm over the increasing incidents of sexual harassment, assault, and even murder of women, particularly in educational institutions and workplaces. He noted that women are playing a leading role in the country’s development and progress, including in education, and are gaining recognition both domestically and internationally.

However, despite these positive contributions, the lack of effective government action against such crimes and the prevailing culture of impunity has emboldened perpetrators, allowing these abuses to continue unchecked. Fakhrul called for collective responsibility in defending women’s rights and urged all to be vigilant and proactive in opposing such violence.
