The names of eight military installations under the Bangladesh Navy, Air Force, and Military Command and Staff College, previously named after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her family members, have been changed. This includes three installations under the Navy, three under the Air Force, one under the Military Command and Staff College, and one under the Ministry of Defense.

Following approval from the Chief Adviser, the Ministry of Defense issued an official notification today, announcing the renaming of these eight facilities. Additionally, the Chief Adviser’s press wing has reported that proposals for renaming 16 more military institutions and installations under the Bangladesh Army have been received and are awaiting approval.

According to the Ministry of Defense notification, the Bangladesh Navy ship BNS Bangabandhu in Chattogram’s New Mooring area has been renamed BNS Khalid Bin Walid, BNS Sheikh Mujib in Namapara, Khilkhet, Dhaka, has been renamed BNS Dhaka, and BNS Sheikh Hasina in Pekua, Cox’s Bazar, is now BNS Pekua. In Dhaka Cantonment, Bangladesh Air Force Base Bangabandhu in Kurmitola has been renamed Bangladesh Air Force Base Bir Uttam A.K. Khandker.

Additionally, Bangabandhu Aeronautical Center in Kurmitola is now Bangladesh Aeronautical Center, BAF Bangabandhu Complex in Jashore has been renamed BAFA Complex, Sheikh Hasina Complex at the Military Command and Staff College in Mirpur Cantonment is now DSCSC Complex, and Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at the Ganabhaban Complex under the Ministry of Defense in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar has been renamed Defense Museum.

The Chief Adviser’s press wing stated that in a January 16 meeting, the Advisory Council decided to remove the names of individuals associated with the fascist government ousted by the student uprising in July-August. As part of this initiative, military and government installations are being renamed in phases, with 16 additional army institutions and facilities awaiting final approval.

Among the proposed changes, Bangabandhu Cantonment in Bhuyapur, Tangail, is set to become Jamuna Cantonment, while Bir Muktijoddha Abdul Hamid Cantonment in Mithamain, Kishoreganj, will be renamed Mithamain Cantonment. Sheikh Hasina Cantonment in Lebukhali, Barishal, will become Barishal Cantonment, and Sheikh Russel Cantonment in Jajira, Shariatpur, will be renamed Padma Cantonment.

In Chattogram’s Bhatiari, Bangabandhu Complex at the Bangladesh Military Academy will be renamed BMA Academic Complex, and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Battery Complex in Halishahar will become Artillery Center and School. In Ramu Cantonment, Cox’s Bazar, Mujib Regiment Artillery will be renamed 1 Field Regiment Artillery, while Adhoc Bangabandhu Military Museum at Bijoy Sarani, Dhaka, will become Bangladesh Military Museum.

Other changes include Bangabandhu Composite Military Farm in Char Janajat, Shariatpur, which will be renamed Composite Military Farm Jajira, and Bangabandhu Museum in Dhaka Cantonment, which will now be Independence Museum. Bangabandhu Cantonment Public School & College in Bhuyapur, Tangail, will be renamed Jamuna Cantonment Public School & College, while Sheikh Russel Cantonment Public School & College in Jalsiri, Narayanganj, will become Adamjee Cantonment Public School & College, Jalsiri.

Furthermore, Sheikh Russel Cantonment Public School & College Jajira in Shariatpur will be renamed Padma Cantonment Public School & College, and Sheikh Hasina Cantonment Public School & College in Lebukhali, Barishal, will now be Barishal Cantonment Public School & College. In Chattogram Cantonment, Sheikh Kamal Complex at the East Bengal Regiment Center (EBRC) will be renamed EBRC Academic Complex, and Mujib Battery Road in AC&S Halishahar will now be Golandaz Road. These 16 renaming proposals are currently awaiting final approval.
