British High Commissioner holds talks with Jamaat Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman

The UK High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Sarah Cook, recently met with Jamaat-e-Islami’s Amir, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, in Dhaka. During her visit, she also met with the party’s female leaders, marking a rare encounter as such meetings with Jamaat’s female leaders are unprecedented. The meeting took place at the party’s office in Magbazar on Tuesday, where they discussed a range of issues including Bangladesh’s overall political situation, democracy, the upcoming elections, human rights, the status of minorities, and the Rohingya crisis. The British High Commission’s Political Counselor, Timothy Dockett, accompanied Sarah Cook during the visit.
