Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called on Bangladesh’s younger generation to take a leading role in rebuilding the nation, urging citizens to embrace cleanliness, civic responsibility, and community engagement as part of a broader effort to transform the country.

Speaking at the inauguration of a three-month nationwide dengue prevention and cleanliness campaign at the South Plaza of the National Parliament on Saturday, the Prime Minister emphasized the power of collective action in creating lasting change.

“We often see people carelessly throwing garbage in public places. Let us all work together to raise awareness and discourage such behavior,” he said. “If every individual makes an effort, we can bring meaningful change.”

Addressing a crowd of students, volunteers, and public officials, Rahman referenced the political transformation of August 2024, saying the country’s youth had already demonstrated their ability to drive change.

“On August 5, 2024, the youth of Bangladesh showed how a nation can be transformed. Now I call upon them once again—let us rebuild the state together,” he said.

The Prime Minister urged citizens to dedicate at least one hour each week to cleaning their homes, schools, workplaces, and neighborhoods. According to him, small but consistent actions can significantly improve public health and help curb the spread of mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue.

“Our goal must be clear: work, work, work—and cleanliness, cleanliness, cleanliness. A clean family, a clean community, and above all, a clean Bangladesh,” he stated.

The campaign is being jointly organized by the Ministry of Local Government, Dhaka North City Corporation, and Dhaka South City Corporation.

Several senior government officials attended the event, including Local Government Minister Abdul Moin Khan, Health Minister Sardar Mohammad Sakhawat Hossain, Information and Broadcasting Minister Andaleeve Rahman, Health State Minister M.A. Muhith, Local Government State Minister Mir Shahe Alam, and Education Secretary Abdul Khaleq.

The program was also attended by city corporation sanitation workers, BNCC members, Scouts, Girl Guides, Red Crescent volunteers, and students from educational institutions across the country. District and upazila administrations joined the inauguration virtually.

The government hopes the nationwide campaign will strengthen public awareness, improve sanitation practices, and reduce dengue infections during the coming months.
