Preparations for the grand Eid procession are in full swing, according to Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan. Despite time constraints, the Local Government Division, the Ministry of Culture, and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) are working tirelessly day and night to ensure the success of the event.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday (March 26) night, Adviser Asif wrote, “The preparations for the Eid procession are at full speed. Despite limited time, the Local Government Division, the Ministry of Culture, and Dhaka North City Corporation are working day and night. The mighty Airavat (elephant) is also joining the parade—are you coming?”

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday (March 23) in the Buriganga Conference Hall of Dhaka Nagar Bhaban, Adviser Asif Mahmud announced that DNCC will host a special Eid congregation at the old trade fair ground in Agargaon for residents of northern Dhaka. The event is expected to accommodate hundreds of thousands of worshippers.

Following the Eid prayer, a grand Eid procession will take place, inspired by the traditions of the Sultanate and Mughal eras. Additionally, to enhance Eid celebrations in the post-fascist government period, there will be an Eid fair and cultural programs.

Adviser Asif further stated, “The country’s main Eid congregation is traditionally held at the National Eidgah. However, residents of Mohammadpur, Mirpur, and North Dhaka often find it difficult to attend. Therefore, this initiative by DNCC aims to facilitate their participation. Moreover, residents of Dhaka South will also be able to join the Eid procession and fair after completing their prayers.”

DNCC Administrator Mohammad Ejaz added that a large Eid prayer congregation will be held at 8 AM at the old trade fair ground. The venue can accommodate several hundred thousand worshippers, and separate arrangements will be made for women. To make the Eid procession truly grand and traditional, it will feature elephants, horses, and a marching band.
