Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh’s interim government, has called for support from China. On Friday morning (March 28), he met with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing for a bilateral discussion.
During the meeting, both leaders discussed issues of mutual interest. Dr. Yunus extended his sincere greetings to President Xi on behalf of the people of Bangladesh. Referring to the mass uprising in Bangladesh last July, he stated that the movement had paved the way for building a “New Bangladesh.”
Recalling his longstanding ties with China, he mentioned his engagement with the country during the establishment of Grameen Bank and the introduction of social business initiatives. He also raised concerns over the Rohingya crisis and urged China to play a strong role in ensuring the safe and dignified repatriation of Rohingya refugees to Myanmar.
Dr. Yunus led the discussions on behalf of Bangladesh, while President Xi represented China.
Later in the afternoon, the Chief Adviser is scheduled to attend an investment dialogue with Chinese business leaders. He will also participate in three roundtable discussions focusing on sustainable infrastructure and energy investment, Bangladesh 2.0 production and market opportunities, and youth entrepreneurship under the social business model.
Dr. Yunus arrived in China on Wednesday (March 26) for a four-day official visit.
