The Meteorological Department has predicted that one to two low-pressure systems may form in the Bay of Bengal in April, with the potential to develop into a cyclone. Additionally, the country may experience three days of severe nor’westers (Kalbaishakhi storms).
Based on various weather models, atmospheric data, upper-air circulation patterns, and climate model analysis, the department’s expert committee issued this forecast. The announcement, signed by meteorologist Md. Mominul Islam, states that rainfall is expected to be lower than usual this month. However, Bangladesh may still witness five to seven days of light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and hail.
The forecast further indicates that one of the low-pressure systems forming in the Bay of Bengal could intensify into a depression or even a cyclone. Meanwhile, daytime and nighttime temperatures across the country are expected to remain higher than normal. The Meteorological Department also anticipates two to four mild to moderate heatwaves and one to two severe heatwaves throughout April.
