In a move to enhance international cooperation in the fight against corruption, Bangladesh’s Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and Thailand’s National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Friday. The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC summit held in Bangkok, with Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus present at the ceremony.

ACC Chairman Dr. Mohammad Moin signed on behalf of Bangladesh, while NACC President Suchart Trakulkasemsuk represented Thailand. Dr. Moin expressed hope that the MoU would strengthen both countries’ efforts to combat corruption more effectively. He added that several individuals facing corruption allegations in Bangladesh have reportedly taken shelter in neighboring countries, and this agreement could aid in identifying and bringing them to justice.

The MoU aligns with Article 48 of the UN Convention against Corruption, which encourages bilateral and multilateral cooperation among law enforcement agencies of member states. Under this agreement, both countries will share relevant intelligence, collaborate on methods to gather corruption-related data, and implement joint initiatives, research, and other cooperative programs to prevent and suppress corruption.
