Model Meghna Alam has officially been shown arrested by a Dhaka court in connection with a fraud and extortion case filed with Dhanmondi Police Station. On Thursday morning (April 17), Metropolitan Magistrate Masum Miah granted the arrest request after Meghna was presented in court. The investigation officer filed a petition to show her arrested, which was supported by the public prosecutor during the hearing.

Meghna was initially detained on the night of April 9 from a residence in the Bashundhara Residential Area. Prior to her detention, she went live on Facebook, alleging that individuals identifying themselves as police were trying to break into her home. The livestream, which lasted over 12 minutes, abruptly ended and was later deleted from her account, though clips had already circulated online.

Following her detention, she was presented in Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court on the night of April 10, where police requested her remand under the Special Powers Act. The court granted the request, ordering her to be held in jail for 30 days.

The arrest has sparked public scrutiny, especially regarding the manner in which it was carried out. In response to the controversy, DB Chief Rezaul Karim Mallik of Dhaka Metropolitan Police was removed from his position on April 12.
