The Appellate Division has canceled the order to frame charges against Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the former Chief Adviser of the caretaker government, in a money laundering case. The verdict was delivered on Wednesday (April 23) by a four-member bench led by Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed. The country’s highest court granted Dr. Yunus’s appeal against a previous High Court ruling.

The court also observed that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) acted hastily in withdrawing the case after Dr. Yunus assumed office as Chief Adviser. On August 11 last year, shortly after the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government on August 5, the ACC withdrew the case filed against Dr. Yunus and 13 others.

Dr. Yunus’s lawyer argued that the case was politically motivated and intended to harass him. Therefore, after assuming power, the ACC sought the court’s permission to withdraw the case, which the court granted. However, Dr. Yunus did not personally request the withdrawal. Instead, he instructed his legal team to fight the charges through the judicial process.
