Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has called on the global business community to invest in Bangladesh, citing the country’s immense geographical and economic potential. Speaking at a reception hosted by Qatari entrepreneurs on Tuesday (April 22) evening during the sidelines of an economic summit in Qatar, he highlighted Bangladesh as a surprising yet highly promising nation in terms of trade and investment opportunities.

Dr. Yunus emphasized the strategic location of Bangladesh, noting that neighboring countries like Nepal, Bhutan, and seven Indian states lack direct access to the sea. By integrating this region economically, a powerful growth opportunity could emerge, he said.

Referring to past misgovernance spanning 16 years, he stated that massive financial corruption occurred under the guise of megaprojects. He noted that reform is now underway across vital sectors including the economy, judiciary, police, and administration.

Since the interim government assumed office, the business climate in Bangladesh has improved, Yunus stated, calling the country an ideal destination for investment. He encouraged Qatari investors to consider relocating their factories to Bangladesh and assured them of full support from the interim administration.

Mentioning the recent success of a major investment summit in the country, he welcomed international investors to witness firsthand the energy and creativity of Bangladesh’s vast youth population. He also shared that several initiatives have been launched for national reconstruction, including the formation of reform commissions whose work is nearing completion. Once these are finalized, the nation will proceed toward elections.

Earlier, Dr. Yunus met with Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs, Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, where they discussed technical aspects of Bangladesh’s proposed land-based LNG terminal.
