Raise Awareness to Stop Noise Pollution: Environment Adviser

A social movement must be built to combat noise pollution, said Syeda Rizwana Hasan, the Environment and Forest Affairs Adviser. She emphasized that while loud music during festivals has become common, behavioral and psychological changes are essential to control it. Though it’s not possible to eliminate a long-standing issue overnight, initiating the process can gradually lead to resolution.
Speaking at a consultative workshop held at the Department of Environment in Agargaon, Dhaka, on an integrated and participatory project to control noise pollution, she shared that specific locations could be designated for fireworks during events like the Bengali New Year, which would help reduce noise pollution.
She also addressed the issue of hydraulic horns, stating that their import is banned, making them hard to obtain, and highlighted the need to regulate the use of sirens even in emergencies. Additionally, she stressed that individuals must stop using horns irresponsibly on motorcycles and other vehicles.
