Garment workers blocked the Dhaka–Narayanganj Link Road in Fatullah on Monday, demanding that the minimum monthly wage be set at Tk 30,000.

The workers began the blockade around noon near Shibu Market in Narayanganj Sadar upazila, disrupting traffic along the busy road.

According to eyewitnesses, workers initially gathered around 11:30am at Kutubail Katherpul in the same upazila. They later moved to the Shibu Market area of the Dhaka–Narayanganj Link Road and occupied the roadway at around 12:00pm.

Lokman Hossain, one of the protesting workers, said they had joined the movement voluntarily and were demanding a minimum monthly wage of Tk 30,000.

“We are participating in the protest spontaneously. Our minimum wage must be increased to Tk 30,000,” he said.

Narayanganj Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) Tarek Al Mehedi said senior district police officials, including the officer-in-charge of Fatullah Police Station, had reached the scene after receiving news of the blockade.

He said police were speaking with the workers and trying to bring the situation under control.
