The chairman of the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), Brigadier General Faisal Azad, announced that under a new policy, fresh dealers will be appointed to distribute TCB goods. Speaking at a discussion titled “Trade with TCB” held at the Army Golf Club in Dhaka on Wednesday (April 23), he stated that both new applicants and existing dealers will require clearance from the respective Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office. TCB will resume operations with newly appointed dealers starting July 1.
He further mentioned that TCB will directly import essential items, including edible oil, and necessary steps are being taken in this regard. Due to multiple cards being held by members of the same family, many were automatically excluded from the program. However, TCB is working to resolve the identity verification issues of family card holders by June.
Additionally, Commerce Ministry Secretary Dr. Nazneen Kauser Chowdhury emphasized that TCB’s objective is to contribute to economic development, not profit-making. She noted that achieving the SDG targets requires collective effort, and despite challenges like market syndicates, TCB remains determined to fulfill its mission.
