Just 24 hours after raising gold prices, the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has now announced a reduction in gold rates across the country. In a statement issued on Wednesday (April 23), BAJUS declared that the price of 22-carat gold has been decreased by BDT 5,342 per bhori (11.664 grams), setting the new price at BDT 172,546 per bhori.
According to the announcement, the decision to lower the rates was made due to a drop in the price of pure gold in the local market. The new pricing, effective immediately, also adjusts the rates for other gold categories: 21-carat gold now costs BDT 164,696 per bhori, 18-carat at BDT 141,169, and traditional method gold is priced at BDT 116,780 per bhori.
BAJUS clarified that the listed prices do not include mandatory charges, such as the government-imposed 5% VAT and a 6% minimum making charge set by the association. These may vary depending on the design and quality of the jewelry.
This price cut follows a sharp increase just a day earlier, on April 22, when BAJUS raised the price of 22-carat gold to a record high of BDT 177,888 per bhori.
