The Gonosanghati Andolon has urged the National Consensus Commission to address the crisis arising from the conflicting positions on reforms and elections, following a meeting with political parties regarding the proposed reforms. Zonyad Saki, the coordinator of Gonosanghati Andolon, stated that constitutional reforms cannot be made without elections, and emphasized that reforms related to the constitution can only be achieved through the electoral process. However, he suggested that other reforms could be implemented through ordinances.

The meeting, which began at 10 AM on Sunday (April 27), was attended by representatives of the Gonosanghati Andolon. They expressed their agreement with 138 of the 166 proposals made by the National Consensus Commission, but disagreed with 11 proposals. Professor Ali Riaz, the vice-chairman of the commission, stated that the commission had submitted a report to resolve the ongoing crisis and emphasized the need to maintain unity to prevent the rise of authoritarianism.

After the four-hour meeting, Zonyad Saki reiterated the party’s stance that no reform related to the constitution could be made without elections. He also called for a stronger role for the National Consensus Commission to resolve the impasse between reforms and elections. The Gonosanghati Andolon representatives urged the commission to take an active role in fostering consensus among all political parties, the public, and other stakeholders, viewing reforms and elections as complementary processes.

The meeting also included other representatives from the Gonosanghati Andolon, including Executive Coordinator Abul Hasan Rubel, members of the Political Council Dewan Abdur Rashid Nilu, Hasan Maruf Rumi, and Monir Uddin Pappu, along with members of the Secretariat Bachchu Bhuiya, Zulhasnain Babu, Imrad Zulkarnein, Deepak Ray, and Tarikul Sujon.
