BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has stated that any decision regarding transit corridors must come from a government elected by the people. Speaking virtually at an AB Party anniversary event held at the National Press Club on Friday, he emphasized that all political parties should unite in the interest of the country. He also stressed that those who violated the constitution in recent years must be held accountable through steps taken by an interim government that is answerable to the public. Tarique warned that autocratic forces may resurface through local government elections ahead of the national polls. He asserted the need to ensure the people’s right to vote freely and to provide them with political and economic security, which can only be guaranteed by a government elected by the people. He further cautioned that dismissive rhetoric around national elections would empower anti-democratic forces, and it is the responsibility of the interim government to bring political parties before the people’s court.
