Writ Seeks Review Panel on Women’s Reform Commission Recommendations

A writ petition has been filed in the High Court seeking the formation of an expert committee to review several controversial and conflicting recommendations made by the Women Reform Commission. The petition, filed on Sunday (May 4) by a lawyer in the public interest, also requested an injunction on the implementation of the commission’s recommendations until the case is resolved. Among the recommendations challenged are items 3, 4, 6, 10, 11, and 12, which the petitioner argues are in conflict with Islamic law, hurt public sentiment, and contradict the Constitution.
