BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was originally scheduled to return to Bangladesh from London today on a regular flight operated by Biman Bangladesh Airlines. However, in a last-minute change, she is now set to arrive a day later, on Tuesday, via a special air ambulance sent by the Emir of Qatar. The decision came after growing concerns over the security of the scheduled Biman flight. Despite preparations for the flight being in place, doubts arose when intelligence agencies flagged at least two cabin crew members over their political affiliations, which could pose risks to the high-profile passenger. On Friday night, crew members Al Kubrun Nahar Kosmic and Md. Kamrul Islam Bipon were removed from duty due to concerns related to their connections with the ruling Awami League government. Kosmic was reportedly close to Sheikh Rehana, sister of the deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, and had received multiple disciplinary notices during her career. Kamrul, on the other hand, was said to be actively involved in political events tied to the ruling party. Following these revelations, BNP officials reconsidered the flight arrangement. The matter also drew the attention of Qatari authorities, who promptly offered a high-security air ambulance. The special aircraft includes a medical team and will carry Khaleda Zia along with her daughters-in-law—Dr. Zubaida Rahman and Sharmila Rahman Sithi. The flight is set to depart London’s Heathrow at 4:10 PM local time on Monday, stop in Doha for a layover, and reach Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by 10:30 AM Bangladesh time on Tuesday.
