BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has left Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport for her residence, Firoza, in Gulshan. Her motorcade departed around 11:25 AM on Tuesday (May 6), shortly after she landed in Dhaka at 10:40 AM aboard a Qatar Royal Air Ambulance following four months of advanced medical treatment and family time in London. She was welcomed at the airport by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and other senior leaders.
From early morning, hundreds of BNP activists gathered in the airport area to greet her, celebrating her return with cheers and slogans. Supporters expressed relief at her improved health and voiced hope that she would again lead the party and work to restore democracy in the country.
The day before, on Monday (May 5), her son Tarique Rahman personally drove her to Heathrow Airport. The farewell was an emotional one, as Tarique and his wife Zubaida Rahman said goodbye to Begum Zia after months of family bonding. Thousands of expatriate BNP activists also came to bid her farewell, showing their support and affection.
During her departure from London, Khaleda Zia smiled and waved at her supporters, thanking them for their love and asking them to take care of her son Tarique. Alongside her two daughters-in-law, members of her medical board, UK BNP President MA Malek, and General Secretary Kaiser M Ahmed also returned to Dhaka.
