Jaima Rahman Takes Up Key Legal Role at the United Nations

Jaima Rahman, daughter of Bangladesh Prime Minister Tareque Rahman, has been appointed as a Legal Officer in the Office of the President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
According to information provided by UN officials, Rahman will be responsible for handling legal matters within the office headed by UNGA President Khalilur Rahman.
The office of the General Assembly President consists of 40 personnel from different countries. Among them are six Bangladeshis, including Jaima Rahman.
Khalilur Rahman, Bangladesh’s foreign minister, assumed the presidency of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly on Sept. 8. Under his leadership, Prime Minister Tareque Rahman was scheduled to deliver his first address to the General Assembly as Bangladesh’s head of government on Thursday.
Jaima Rahman is the only daughter of Prime Minister Tareque Rahman and Dr. Zubaida Rahman. She is also the granddaughter of former President Ziaur Rahman and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.
She studied law at Queen Mary University of London and later completed her Bar-at-Law training in the United Kingdom. In June 2026, she also passed the first-stage examination for enrollment as an advocate with the Bangladesh Bar Council.
Her appointment adds another Bangladeshi representative to the team supporting the work of the President of the UN General Assembly during its 81st session.
