BNP Standing Committee member Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan has stated that it is not BNP’s responsibility to decide whether the Awami League should be banned; rather, that decision lies with the people and the Election Commission. Speaking on Friday (May 9) after a meeting with a delegation from the Carter Center at the BNP Chairperson’s office, he said they discussed the overall political situation in the country. Dr. Moyeen Khan also mentioned that discussions included the Carter Center’s potential involvement in the next national election and the context in which such participation might occur. Emphasizing the urgency of resolving the ongoing political, social, and law-and-order crisis, he noted that the sooner an election is held, the better it will be for the country. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and four other party representatives were also present at the meeting.
